Sapphire Coast Historic Vehicle Club

History

It will come as no surprise to learn that the idea for a motor vehicle club began with some petrol heads having a few beers at the bottom pub at Pambula in1986!

Max Sinclair, Jim Spears and Henry Petterson thought it would be a great idea to form a club for motor vehicle enthusiasts in the area, and after gathering a few like-minded people from the area they held a formation meeting at the Royal Willows Hotel in Pambula on 22 April 1987.

Monthly meetings were held at the bottom Pub until numbers and cigarette smoke

forced a move to a bigger venue at Pambula Beach Bowling Club. Around that time the government mandated that any open gravel pit had to be "beautified" and local Geoff Grenenger who owned a gravel pit at Greigs Flat decided to offer the land to the Club, and SCHVC became the proud owners of the land on which the Club is now located.

Following years of effort and work by Members and through the generosity of many

local people, the property now contains a collection of buildings and facilities for the

enjoyment of motor vehicle enthusiasts in the area. The Club has over 300 members today who own and enjoy a huge range of vehicles from early "wooden spokers" onwards, and the members have completed a number of vehicle restoration projects which are on display at the club.

For over 20 years the club has been operating a mentoring scheme for select students from Eden Marine High School, and the current mentoring project is the restoration of our chain-drive Republic truck.
