It will come as no surprise to learn that the idea for a motor vehicle club began with some petrol heads having a few beers at the bottom pub at Pambula in1986!
Max Sinclair, Jim Spears and Henry Petterson thought it would be a great idea to form a club for motor vehicle enthusiasts in the area, and after gathering a few like-minded people from the area they held a formation meeting at the Royal Willows Hotel in Pambula on 22 April 1987 and the Sapphire Coast Historic Vehicle Club was formed.
Monthly meetings were held at the bottom Pub until numbers and cigarette smoke
forced a move to a bigger venue at Pambula Beach Bowling Club.
The club through friendships was fortunate to be gifted 3 hectares land at Greigs Flat by the Grenenger Family in 1999.
Following years of effort and work by members and through the generosity of many local people the site which was previously a quarry has now been landscaped, revegetated and now contains a collection of buildings and facilities for the enjoyment of motor vehicle enthusiasts in the area.
We have built club rooms, two workshops and two large vehicle display pavilions which house approx 55 vehicles and a collection of tools and memorabilia on display for visitors.
Today the Club has over 300 members today who own and enjoy a huge range of vehicles from "wooden spokers" from early 1900s through to 1990s vehicles. The members and student mentoring group have completed a number of vehicle restoration projects which are on display at the club including an electric Morris Minor, a 1925 Citroen and a 1926 Model T Ford. Currently members are restoring a 1913 chain drive Republic Truck and 1933 Railton Terraplane sports tourer.
